The Skoda Kodiaq is the company’s first attempt in the field full-sized 7-seater SUV segment. The Kodiaq is built on the MQB platform, same as the Tiguan. The first concept of the Kodiaq SUV was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show as the Vision S. The SUV is built with a rugged and tough exterior design which is meticulously carved around every bending to further entice the muscularity.

Being the first full sized SUV from the house of the Czech automaker, the price of the Skoda Kodiaq will definitely be on the aggressive side, as the company wouldn’t want it to die away way too soon among a very competitive segment. The prices will be ranging between Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 30 lakhs depending on the trim level.

Launch date

The 2017 Skoda Kodiaq is not very far from its grand launch. Considering that this anticipated SUV has crossed all of the basic stages of production, the launch is slated to take place by the last quarter of 2017.

Features

The Skoda Kodiaq gets a very wide range of features including its comfort and safety. On the inside of the SUV, there are features like touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and a 10-speaker surround sound music system. It also boasts on a large 720 litres of bootspace.

On the safety front, the SUV is provided with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution, hill descent control and electronic stability control.

Mechanical specifications

The Skoda Kodiaq will be getting the petrol as well as diesel motor variants. Both the variants will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The petrol engine will produce a maximum power of 177 bhp and a highest torque of 320 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel engine will be a more powerful version among the two and will be capable of making a peak power of 187 bhp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The transmission duties will be looked over by a manual or an automatic DSG transmission gearbox. The presence of AWD will get the job done even in difficult off-road conditions.

Verdict

Considering that the Kodiaq is the first ever 7-seater SUV from Skoda, it will be a product that the company will bank on big time. However, it is not easy to predict the future of this car in the Indian SUV market as the competition is at its peak with the presence of powerhouses like the Mitsubishi Pajero, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Volkswagen Tiguan (when launched).

Having said that, the specifications and other performance related features are right up to the mark to justify its premium price range.
